Archaeologists excavating Kurul Castle near Ordu on Turkey’s Black Sea coast uncovered a marble statue of the Mother Goddess Cybele dating to around the 2nd century BC, roughly 2,100 years old. The statue was found seated on its throne in its original location, which makes the discovery especially rare, and it was revealed during systematic excavations led by an academic team.
